Thanks for inviting me to the forum Claire.
I'm Barbi. My husband Jeff & I live in the Arizona desert (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tumbleweed.gif) and own a little internet business specializing in our native woods for exotic pets.
We got chins in Sept of this year. 1st we fell in love with 1 year old mosaic brothers, Rigel & Sirius who were being surrendered by their owner but it didn't look like we would be able to get them. It would have been a 5 day trip to get them home and with the cost of the trip and purchasing them and ALL of the stuff they came with, it was out of our reach. So we contacted a rescue 2 hours away from home and were introduced to 2 beige males that the gal that runs the rescue had picked out especially for us. Mason is 5 1/2 & Chipper is 2 or 3. Shortly after bringing Mason & Chipper home, another chin owner offered to drive Rigel & Sirius halfway so within a month of deciding to get 2 chins we had 4. These guys are incredible. They're so friendly, love that we spoil them rotten (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) and are great chinnie pigs for our products.
Although we had wanted chinchillas for about 5 years we weren't so sure we would be good chin parents...we like to travel, both for work and pleasure, and have young grandkids so we thought our life was maybe a bit too crazy to properly care for them...but 5 years later our desire for chins hadn't faded and we finally decided we could make it work. Until Sept we hadn't even touched a chin, only saw pictures of our customers' many chins (I had seen scared chins in small cages once at an exotic pet expo) and through our customers had learned a lot about them and their needs. But little did we know that little fuzzballs could have such huge personalities; I guess you don't REALLY know until you have chins of your own.
They are housed as pairs but we are unable to let the 4 of them out together for playtime because there's harrassing and nipping between Chipper & Sirius the few times we've tried so we won't even try anymore.
We also have a Yellow Collared (mini macaw) Krickett. We got her when she was 5 weeks old and we've had her for 4 years. She travels with us everywhere we go and loves it. Now when we travel we plan on taking all the kritters with us. Family & friends have always been very accomodating with Krickett and look forward to meeting the chins as well...especially our 8 grandkids.
I know a few of you here already and am looking forward to getting to know more of you. Thanks for letting me into your world...Barbi

Gee Golly! Thanks for the warm welcome (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I'm so glad I was introduced to this site; I'm finding different information and points of view here that I haven't found on the other forums I belong to.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/wave.gif) Hi and (IMG:style_emoticons/default/WelcomeCF.gif) Barbi - lovely to see you found your way over. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

We're a bit "different" here (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mhihi.gif)

BTW I have a room full of very happy chinnies this evening - their box of wood sticks arrived today and all I can hear are sounds of chomping followed by the occasional "thrum, thrum, thrum" sound as a chin runs around the cage with their stick rattling against the mesh. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mhihi.gif)
So (IMG:style_emoticons/default/TY.gif) from the small furry masters and mistresses of Monty's Manor.

What i like about this forum is the face that most people here do have a different point of view on chinchilla subjects& that you dont have to be embarrassed to write things here or to give your oppinion. You wont get personally attacked!
It is the best place to actually learn about chins I find!

Oh wow! I've been so busy getting last minute holiday orders out and haven't been on in over a week...maybe 2...and I really wanted to be here!
I'm stumped and need your help. The last time I was on I got a PM, read it, then went to try to figure out what I could suggest to Weenieangel then couldn't figure out how to get back to my PM. Since then I received an email but somehow lost that completely!!! What a goober, I know...it just gets a little crazy at PPBN this time of year. So my question is...where do I find my pm's when I don't have a little window open alerting me that there is a new one?

You can either go to the top right and click on "0 New Messages" which brings you to your PMs or click on "My Controls" (also top right) and then click on Messenger on the left hand side. Go into "inbox" and your messages will be there. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
